As part of our on-going information series about Mobile Marketing, Capitol Chevrolet is working to make our Chevrolet Fans Of The Brand familiar with the different types of Mobile Marketing tools we are now making available to help you stay connected with our products and services. One that is gaining much attention is QR (quick-response) codes. While not yet part of the mainstream here in the U.S., in Europe and Asia these codes are an everyday technology for consumers and retailers, and our research tells us it won’t be long before that’s also the case here.

To help you better understand, Think of QR codes as the barcodes currently read by the cashier at your local grocery store. Those codes contain product information such as pricing, sku, inventory info, etc.; scanning the info enables them to move you quickly thru checkout, and if you are part of the grocery store loyalty/discount program, then it also uploads a history of your purchases to your account. This allows the grocery chain to provide you with special offers related to the types of purchases you make, it helps them see how often you visit their store, and it helps them with inventory/purchasing management.

We think this it is a very cool touch for our customers with smart phones... Our Chevrolet Dealership will be starting to incorporate the use of QR Codes, for both our service and sales Fans Of The Brand. Jeff Knittel • I facilitate a "Social Media 101" class and have witnessed both ends of the spectrum. Some dealerships are totally bought in and using Social Media effectively while other Dealers have the old school mentality, "if salespeople are on computers they are playing around", in fact some dealerships actually forbid it. The only thing I can say to those dealers is, "Remember Oldsmobile?" If you are not evolving and adapting to the current customer base in the market, you will fail.
The problem with Social Media from a Dealer's standpoint is that there is no instant gratification, Social Media is not about selling a vehicle "TODAY". It's about building relationships with your customers, it's about customer retention and keeping your customers engaged.
Generation Y is the "New" generation and will be both your customers and your employees, they are the most educated generation ever and also the most tatooed, pierced and technologically advanced. But if you don't think they can have an effect on your dealership and you want to totally dismiss them, think about this. What have they done to the newspaper industry? The recording industry? Technology?
Evolution is the key and I would suggest you be proactive and be a leader and a pioneer, don't sit back and let your competition pass you by!
One last note, if you watched 60 minutes on Sunday February 13th you would have seen the segment where Social Media actually caused the downfall of the Egyptian government....need I say more?

The Chevrolet Volt - Changing The Times

General Motors is rolling out some of most significant new model in decades: the shockingly cool Chevrolet Volt electric car is a marvel in many ways. A “range-extended” electric vehicle built in Detroit, the four-seat Volt can travel about 35 miles on a rechargeable battery pack before the car’s gas engine even comes on.

That’s theoretically infinite gas mileage, but the EPA has come up with a new way of measuring energy consumption for electric cars. Looking at how much electricity it takes to recharge the Volt’s batteries, the agency says the car gets the equivalent of 93 miles per gallon — apparently the highest rating ever for a U.S. car.

On the outside, the Volt looks pretty much like any traditional small car, but under the hood and frame, two electric motors, a four-cylinder gas engine and a huge T-shaped battery pack run the vehicle. Plug the Volt into any standard electrical outlet for eight to 10 hours to charge up its batteries and the car will operate on electric power alone for miles. Once the batteries run down, the gas engine automatically kicks in to keep the car going for another 350 miles or so.

The Volt is different from other electric cars, like Nissan's equally new Leaf. The latter can go up to 100 miles before the question becomes: Where's the nearest outlet? GM calls this "range anxiety,'' and says Volt drivers won't have the same worry. To turn on the car, you push a little blue rectangle button to the right of the steering wheel. You just need to have the car's key fob with you. It's an electric-car cliché, I know, but the car was eerily quiet when started. Barely even a detectible shudder in the car's frame. Then the car's electronic dashboard and LCD touch screen came to life.

In short, GM claims the Volt has the advantages of a pure electric car without the drawbacks. For that, the Volt has earned praise from several automotive enthusiast magazines.

Chevrolet Just Keeps Getting Better 2011 Chevrolet Travere

Consumers Digest once again has ranked the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse a “Best Buy” recent article reported that the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse is a big, spacious, comfortable vehicle that should be on any family’s list of SUVs to consider. The Traverse SUV is big and roomy (longer than and with more interior cargo capacity than a Chevy Tahoe), offers the classic, high "command seating" driving position, and feels truck solid on the road A 288-hp, 3.6-liter V6 engine delivers ample power and is mated to a smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle handles more easily than its size might indicate, and it delivers a comfortable ride over rough roads."

We spoke with Fred Gore, Chevrolet Sales Manager for Capitol Chevrolet of Florence, he stated

“economy doesn’t come with any sacrifice of performance, the Traverse is powered by a direct injection, 3.6-liter V6 that produces 288 horsepower, and the standard six-speed automatic transmission provides quiet shifting and smooth acceleration while
contributing to outstanding highway fuel economy,”.

The 2011 Chevrolet Traverse is a large crossover SUV available in three trim levels. LS - Standard equipment on the LS includes 17-inch steel wheels, eight-passenger seating, split-folding second- and third-row bench seats, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, air-conditioning, full power accessories, OnStar and a six-speaker CD/MP3 player with an auxiliary audio jack and satellite radio. LT - The midrange LT trim level is actually two sub-trims. The 1LT package offers Toledo Chevrolet shoppers 18-inch alloy wheels, heated side view mirrors, an eight-way power driver seat, a trip computer, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and rear parking sensors.

The 2LT package has all the 1LT items, plus tri-zone automatic climate control, a 10-speaker Bose system with USB port, rear audio system controls, seven-passenger seating, featuring second-row captain's chairs, a power lift gate and a rearview camera integrated into the rearview mirror.

The third trim level, the Traverse LTZ, ups the luxury ante with 20-inch wheels, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated power front seats, Bluetooth connectivity and remote ignition.
Many of the standard features on upper trim levels can be added to the lower ones via option packages. One popular feature from the add-ons list is a trailer-towing package. Properly equipped, the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse can tow up to 5,200 pounds.
Now in its third year of production, the full-sized Traverse SUV was introduced as a 2009 model and shares its major underpinnings with corporate siblings Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and the now defunct Saturn Outlook. And that's a good thing.

Define Camaro: "a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs"

The revived Chevrolet Camaro has been a big success for General Motors.
Last year, even though it came only as a coupe, the Camaro outsold its Mustang archrival, which came in more flavors: coupe, convertible and high-performance versions.

So the arrival of a much-delayed convertible version for 2011 seems to portend even greater Camaro sales glory. The convertible arrives at what its marketers consider an optimal time to rekindle interest and sales in the current-generation car, which made its debut in 2009.

The roof is nicely shaped (not like the usual ribbed Conestoga-style top); is water- and weather-tight; and is acoustically dead-quiet. One of the main complaints about the handsome coupe has been the poor visibility from its turretlike cabin. That issue is pretty much gone, of course, with the hardtop removed. And with the top up, visibility is no worse than in the claustrophobic coupe.

Safety equipment includes dual threshold front airbags, curtain side airbags, front side airbags, a tire-pressure monitor, anti-lock brakes with brake assist, hill start assist, traction control, and GM's StabiliTrak electronic stability control. A rearview camera and rear park assist are optional, and we recommend them. All-wheel drive enhances stability in slippery conditions.

Review For 2011 Chevrolet Equinox

Introduction 2011 Chevrolet Equinox The Chevrolet Equinox was redesigned for 2010, and the second-generation model has been a resounding success. GM says that more than half of Equinox buyers have switched from non-GM brands, and that to keep up with demand, the company is retooling part of the plant to increase production capacity. The 2011 Chevrolet Equinox comes with more standard equipment than the 2010, but it is otherwise identical. Some people believe the second year of production is the sweet spot because they've ironed out all the bugs but it's still new. The Equinox has pricing and features of a compact SUV, but it's a little larger, and closer in size to a midsize SUV. And the Equinox comes with luxury and technology amenities not expected in its price class. In short, it's a good value. Equinox offers a choice of four-cylinder or V6 engines. The standard 2.4-liter four-cylinder uses direct injection for more power and better fuel economy. A front-wheel-drive Equinox gets an EPA-estimated 22/32 mpg City/Highway. Lots of sound insulation makes it quieter than most four-cylinders and we think it's a capable engine. The available 3.0-liter V6 is rated at 264 horsepower and 222 pound-feet of torque, but we didn't think it felt much more powerful than the four-cylinder. So we recommend the standard 2.4-liter engine.

The V6 does offer Flex-Fuel capability for 2011, however, if ethanol is your preferred fuel. The current Equinox handles better than its predecessor, and ride quality is quite good. It is more carlike than the pre-2010 models, with less lean in turns. It's not sporty, but it's on par with its main competitors, including the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. We found that the Equinox absorbs even sharp bumps without disrupting passenger comfort with either the standard 17-inch or available 18-inch wheels. Inside, the Equinox has an attractively designed interior. There are some nice amenities, including ice blue ambient lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, a hard-drive audio system, a dual-screen rear DVD entertainment system, and a power rear liftgate. The interior materials look and feel like hard plastic, though. Equinox offers plenty of space for passengers and cargo. The front seats are comfortable and supportive, and they have 10 inches of travel, so drivers of all sizes will fit. The useful MultiFlex rear seat offers eight inches of travel, so tall passengers can ride in back or the driver can push the rear seat forward to carry more cargo. Its roomy cabin and reasonable pricing make the Chevrolet Equinox attractive, and buyers can get some nice amenities they wouldn't expect in this price range. While the last model's handling was too sloppy for many, that problem has been remedied, making the Equinox a compelling choice in the entry crossover SUV market.
